For those looking for a delightful bed and breakfast break in the Quantocks then our Coleridge suite is for you.  The elegantly decorated interior and gracious furnishings have delighted all of our our guests in this grade 11 listed, Visit Britain 4* Silver Award accommodation.

The Coleridge Suite is the very room that Samuel Coleridge stayed in during the latter years of his visits to Nether Stowey in the Quantocks.  The new owners have created this charming bedroom suite in the 'Book Room' that was frequented by the poet Samuel Coleridge whilst returning to his.... 'beloved Stowey'.  Thomas Poole, the owner, enticed Coleridge to stay in what was then his impressive library and he even placed a bed for him in the corner of the room.

It is not hard to imagine Coleridge seated in the alcove with blank parchment and quill in hand.

The Coleridge Suite is most spacious with a both a comfortable lounge, dining area and a private bathroom.  coleridgesuitewindowA large sleigh bed is central to the room and information regarding the history of the house will provide fascinating reading for those guests with an interest in historical characters.

Many of our visitors seek to follow in the footsteps of Samuel Coleridge by walking the famous Coleridge Way,and it is not hard to see why  Coleridge was inspired  to write as you follow the route through some of the most beautiful countryside that Britain has to offer.

Breakfast at The Old House, Quantocks.
In the summer months guests may enjoy breakfast in the the delightful walled garden  reputedly having  inspired the poet's famous 'Recollections of Love', reportedly written whilst staying at The Old House in 1807 after the break down of his marriage. We are proud to have been awarded the Visit Britain Outstanding Breakfast Award 2010.

It was to this very house that the Wordsworths, Robert Southey, Humphrey Davy, Thomas and Josiah Wedgwood and many other influential figures visited regularly.  We like to think that the same atmosphere of tranquility that so attracted Coleridge and his family still lingers here today...

Situated at the start of the Coleridge Way, where better to start your walking than in his very footsteps!

PLEASE TAKE A LOOK ON 'TRIP ADVISOR' FOR FURTHER RECOMMENDATION . JUST PUT THE OLD HOUSE, NETHER STOWEY INTO A GOOGLE SEARCH.

Sarah's Room

sarahsroom.jpgFollowing so many requests we have just opened Sarah's room,  offering accommodation in a second charming twin/double room with it's own en-suite.

It was after her sad separation from Samuel Coleridge that Sarah, his wife, stayed for many weeks at The Old House with her children enjoying the garden. Still today you will have to travel a long way to find a lovelier playground!
